I grew up in a very small town in western Oklahoma called Leedey. There were only 13 students in my graduating class! Much to the dismay of my mother, I moved three hours from home after high school to pursue an Elementary Education degree at Oklahoma State University. I completed all four years at that beloved university and obtained my bachelor’s in education and a minor in Spanish. I can wholeheartedly say that my blood runs forever orange. Go Pokes!
Through a special program at OSU, I had the opportunity to complete my student teaching in Costa Rica. I lived with a Spanish-speaking family and taught reading to fifth grade students in San Jose. The school in which I was placed was an “English-submersion” school and my students were fluent in Spanish and English (and often, many other languages). My student teaching experience was certainly unique and very memorable. There is nothing like visiting the beach every weekend!
In June of 2011, I married my sweetheart, Scott, on the beaches of Turks and Caicos Island. Shortly after that, we rescued our spoiled rotten (but worth it) dog, Turk, from the local shelter. He is named after our wedding destination! Scott and I live just outside of Yukon. We love playing tennis, making homemade pizza, and shooting hoops in our driveway.
I love working in Yukon and teaching fifth graders. My students are very important to me. It is not uncommon to find us chatting about a book or joking about the latest episode of American Idol. I am very fortunate to have the students, parents, coworkers, and administration that I have here at Lakeview. LES really is the best!
